LAGUNA COMMUNITY CONCERT BAND
The LCCB was formed in 1998 when Dr. Bill Nicholls working through the Laguna Beach Recreation Department gathered a small group of musicians together and started practicing.
Bill provided all the music, gave musical direction and also played trombone with the group.
Today the group has grown to over 50 dedicated musicians, most of whom are semi professionals who collectively have literally been playing for hundreds of years. A major contributor to our band is our new Assistant Music Director, Mr. Ed Peterson who brings a wealth of directing experience to our band. The band is comprised of woodwind, brass, bass, drums and percussion. Occasionally we supplement our band with outside, high caliber musicians.
The Band has always tried to recruit musicians from Laguna Beach and the surrounding communities and has become the true community band for this area. Members come from Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar, Laguna Nigel, Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Lake Forest, Huntington Beach, and Costa Mesa--so far. LCCB supports all the music arts through regular practice, instruction and performance. As you can see from our performance list below we support lots of civic and charitable functions.
Practice sessions are held at the LBHS music room each Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM. We regularly practice from a folder of about 50 pieces with an occasional addition depending on the character of the scheduled performances. Our music includes, Swing, Marches, Show tune Medleys, Big Band, Dixieland, Christmas Music, Folk and Classical.
The band also has several sub groups which specialize in certain categories. These include a Swing Band, a trombone quintet, a Dixieland group and on occasion a Fife and Drum Corps.
